[{"type":"text","content":"\n \nFor immediate release: 0700hrs 4th April 2007\n\n VALIRX PLC \n\n (\"ValiRx\" or the \"Company\") \n\n University of Surrey Collaborative- Agreement \n\nValiRx plc (AIM: VAL), the cancer therapeutics company, today announces that\nits subsidiary company, Cronos Therapeutics Ltd (\"Cronos\"), has signed an\nagreement with the University of Surrey's Postgraduate Medical School to\nco-develop prostate and bladder cancer diagnostics based on Cronos' proprietary\nHyperGenomics technology.\n\nProfessor Pandha of the University of Surrey is a leading scientist in the\nfield of oncology focusing on integrating clinical and basic research to\nevaluate new targets for the treatment of urological and prostate cancers.\n\nDr Satu Vainikka, CEO of ValiRx, said:\n\n\"We are looking to introduce a technology that reliably detects prostate cancer\neven when it's in the early stages and determine from the outset whether the\ncancer is benign or malignant. We believe these diagnostic capabilities would\nassist oncologists in the management of the disease to deliver better treatment\noutcomes. Current products are unable to do this. Cronos' HyperGenomics\ntechnology has potentially an important role to play and we look forward to our\ncollaboration with Professor Pandha and the University of Surrey, an excellent\nresearch base, to achieve our goals.\"\n\nProfessor Pandha of the University of Surrey adds:\n\n\"By combining the HyperGenomics technology with the data we are generating from\nour ongoing programmes with patients, we are looking towards taking a\nsignificant step forward in the creation of a diagnostic platform for the early\nstage detection of prostate cancer.\"\n\n --- ENDS--- \n\nNotes to Editors:\n\nHyperGenomics is a rapid, high-throughput and extremely sensitive diagnostic\ntechnology that can be used to characterise any particular cell, disease or\ndifferentiation state using a patented PCR-based method for mapping the open\nareas of chromatin on a chromosome.\n\nHyperGenomics represents the first use of chromosome structure as an indicator\nof epigenetic status on a global (throughout the genome) scale. The technology\ncan be automated for the highly parallel analysis of thousands of genes in\nthousands of samples. HyperGenomics thus provides a similar type of information\nto that of DNA chips but in a few hours and at a fr...
