Los Angeles, California (8/18/20) – OKTV, a Valiant Eagle Inc. subsidiary and broadcast media company, is delighted to announce the release of their short documentary film, Harlem Tigerman, in September. This film captures the life of Antoine Yates who raised a Siberian tiger in his New York City Apartment.
Yates and his male, four-year-old, 450-pound Siberian tiger, Ming, were first introduced to the public in October of 2003 when news outlets captured NYPD officers scaling down the side of Antoine’s apartment building to tranquilize Ming. While extracting Ming, NYPD also discovered Yates’s six-foot alligator.
Xavier Mitchell, producer and director of the film says, “I feel it’s important that Antoine is not just recognized for harboring exotic animals, but that his recognition brings about praise for his bravery. He followed his passion, which was to raise wild animals with both love and respect. He is the true Tiger King.”
Harlem Tigerman tells the story of how Antoine became widely known as “Harlem Tigerman”. The documentary discusses how Yates attained his tiger and his experiences while raising Ming in Harlem. The film also reveals his strenuous court battle with the State of New York, and the immoral tactics that prosecutors used to trap Antoine into a plea deal which lead to his incarceration.
Mitchell says, “I’ve recently spoken to Antoine, and he’s excited about the release and for the world to hear his side of the story. He wants the world to understand the purity of his love for animals.”
