EDMONTON, June 30 /CNW/ - TOTAL TELCOM INC. (TSX Venture: TTZ) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary Total Telcom Canada Corporation will no longer solicit builds of fiber optic cable networks for third party customers in the capacity of General Contractor. Effective July 1, 2005 Total Telcom Canada Corporation will cease active bidding on third party network installation contracts and will liquidate assets specific to construction related activities. It is expected that this change in strategy will benefit the Company as a whole by reducing direct operating expenses and converting certain equipment assets back to cash. The Company further reported that Total Telcom Canada Corporation will continue to be involved in network design, engineering, maintenance and inspection projects for selected third party customers on a fee for services basis. "We have enjoyed three very successful and profitable years in the third party network construction business as the Alberta SuperNet Project was underway. We are very proud that we achieved recognition as one of Western Canada's most qualified and well managed builders of fiber optic cable infrastructure," stated President Robert Beaton, who further commented, "Unfortunately we do not foresee an ability to remain competitive in the third party construction business in today's environment due to a sharp reduction in major work opportunities and anticipated lower margins on future projects. Accordingly, we have decided to focus on providing professional consulting, engineering and network maintenance services for selected clients and expect a continued revenue stream related to those activities. Our current business plan revolves significantly around the successful utilization and management of our Fiber Optic Cable Network, achieving consistent revenues from third party consulting work and the development of our newly acquired operating division, ROM Communications." Total Telcom Inc. owns, operates and manages state of the art long haul IP Broadband Fiber Optic Networks, currently providing wholesale Bandwidth, Lit and Dark Fiber-Optic capacity to national carriers, private industry and retail broadband service providers operating within communities in Alberta and BC. They also provide turnkey design, engineering, maintenance and inspection services for private communication networks owned and operated by government and industry. Effective December 31, 2004 Total Telcom Inc. acquired 100% ownership of ROM Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary offering "Web to Wireless" remote monitoring, control and data management products and services.
