[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nWinning Combination Delivers Significant Increases in System Performance\n\n\nwith 2eSST VME Protocol\n\n\nOTTAWA, May 24 /CNW Telbec/ - Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX:TUN),\nthe leader in System Interconnect, announces that GE Fanuc Embedded Systems, a\nleading provider of embedded military and commercial solutions, has selected\nthe Tundra Tsi148(TM) PCI/X-to-VME Interconnect Bridge. GE Fanuc Embedded\nSystems recently launched the V7865 Intel(R) Dual Core Processor Single Board\nComputer (SBC) which uses the Tsi148 as its data interconnection to the VME\nbackplane.\n\n\nThe V7865 is compliant with the ANSI/VITA 1.5-2003 specification, also\nknown as VME320, a VME standard that implements a bus protocol called 2eSST\n(2 Edge Synchronous Source Transfer). Introduced in 1997, 2eSST provides a\nsignificant performance improvement and is capable of achieving sustained data\ntransfer rates of up to 320 Mbytes per second in a full chassis of up to\n21 cards. Equivalent to a 2.5Gbytes per second increase or representing more\nthan an 8 times improvement over conventional VME32, 2eSST enables the VMEbus\nto support new high-performance applications.\n\n\nTundra's Tsi148, the successor to Tundra's industry-leading\nUniverse(TM) II, provides this increase in performance on legacy backplanes\nthereby transparently enabling the high-performance distributed processing\nthat new applications demand. This increased bandwidth in the VME backplane\nenables distributed computing - the connection of multiple processing cards\nthrough the backplane. The Tsi148 supports legacy cards because it is\nbackwards compatible; capable of operating in VME64, 2eVME (VME160) and 2eSST\n(VME320) modes and so it is "plug and play" compatible with any other VME card\nin the chassis. This provides an easy upgrade path for data intensive\napplications such as medical imaging, radar systems, and graphics processing\nand ensures the preservation of legacy functionality, which is critical to\nthese market specific applications.\n\n\nAs VME systems begin to deploy serial interconnect technologies such as\nRapidIO(R) for the data plane, significantly larger amounts of data flows\nthrough these serial connections.
