Tundra Announces Industry's First Serial RapidIO(R) Development Platform

Customers gain significant time-to-market advantage with new serial
RapidIO design support tool

OTTAWA, July 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Tundra Semiconductor Corporation (TSX:
TUN), the leader in System Interconnect, today announced the availability of
the Tundra serial RapidIO development platform. Continuing its commitment to
provide comprehensive design support tools, Tundra has partnered with Silicon
Turnkey Express (STx) to supply the reference design platform using the
Tsi568A(TM) serial RapidIO switch. Already a member of the Tundra Third Party
Partner Program and a supplier of the Tundra Hardware Interoperability
Platform (HIP), STx will manufacture and distribute the serial RapidIO
development platform. This development platform combined with other easily
accessible design support tools for the Tundra RapidIO System Interconnect
product family will facilitate the flexibility and rapid prototyping
capability needed to design next-generation systems faster.
"Our partnership with Tundra has evolved from providing parallel RapidIO
solutions using the Tundra HIP II to providing the serial RapidIO development
board using the Tundra Tsi568A serial RapidIO switch," says Robert Applebaum,
President of Silicon Turnkey Express. "Customers are going to be pleased with
the degree of flexibility and the overall benefit of reducing both their
design risk and time-to-market."

LOW COST PROTOTYPING SOLUTION

The serial RapidIO development platform will provide system architects,
boards designers and software developers with a low cost prototyping solution.
The platform is a stand-alone card that is powered through a standard ATX
(Advanced Technology eXtended) supply and can be used in conjunction with off-
the-shelf processing and I/O (input/output) boards to immediately create a
"proof of concept" system, an application software development environment,
customer demonstration system or an interoperability-testing suite. This
development board is a critical component of customers' development activities
and will reduce system development risk.
The serial RapidIO development platform leverages various industry
standard mechanical connectors including, Advanced Mezzanine Connectors (AMC),
SubMiniature version A (SMA) connectors, Hardware Interoperability Platform
connectors (HIP), and a 4x I/O (input/output) differential cable connector.
This level and breadth of interoperability enables a high degree of
flexibility so customers can perform a range of development and diagnostic
activities including, prototyping and interoperability testing.
"Customers of our high performance TMS320C6455 digital signal processor
(DSP) should find the Tundra serial RapidIO development platform useful for
prototyping multi-channel voice and video applications, such as Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP), media gateways, and video network infrastructure,"
said Thomas Brooks, DSP Platform Marketing Manager at Texas Instruments.

RAPIDIO ECOSYSTEM CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN

"With the launch of this development board, Tundra continues to
demonstrate its leadership and commitment to providing customers with the
design tools they need to develop RapidIO-based systems," says Iain Scott,
President of the RapidIO Trade Association. "The ecosystem is strengthened by
the availability of a development platform that enables system prototyping and
promotes interoperability between semiconductor vendors. Both customers and
RapidIO vendors will benefit greatly from using this platform."
"Tundra design support tools reduce development time and design risk,
ultimately minimizing design challenges for our customers" says Rick O'Connor,
Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Product Management at Tundra.
"Over the course of the year, as the RapidIO ecosystem continues to introduce
new products, customers and partners will be able to leverage this development
platform to continue to prove interoperability successes."
