Chief Executive, Simon Pitts, today announces the broadcaster's initial response:\n \n \n \n \n \n \"People and businesses across the country are now profoundly impacted by the coronavirus and we recognise the vital role that public service broadcasters like STV will play through this extended period of disruption. We are a free to air, universally available and highly trusted source of news, entertainment and information and we can use our privileged place in people's lives to have a positive impact now and in the longer term:\n \n \n \n \n \n - for our viewers, we will do everything we can to maintain our service and keep our shows on air across all genres, in particular to ensure they are informed with trusted news about the crisis both on TV and online, as well as providing much needed entertainment with a raft of new shows across our TV channel and the STV Player;\n \n \n \n \n \n - for our advertisers and commercial partners, we will work in partnership as we implement new plans to support Scottish businesses using STV's unparalleled reach to promote their products and services when they need us most; and\n \n \n \n \n \n - for the most vulnerable in our communities we will implement a package of special measures, through the STV Children's Appeal, to provide increased support at this most challenging time.\n \n \n \n \n \n Our news service\n \n \n \n \n \n \"The health and safety of our staff is our number one priority, together with the wellbeing of guests and contributors.
