HAMILTON, ON, Sept. 2 /CNW/ - Stelco Inc. (TSX:STE) today announced that the Thirty-Sixth Report of the Monitor in the matter of the Company's Court-supervised restructuring was filed today. The Report deals primarily with the Monitor's suggestion that Stelco seek a brief extension of the stay period from September 9, 2005 till September 23, 2005. The Monitor notes that meaningful and productive discussions have been and are taking place between Stelco and certain of its stakeholders. The Monitor adds that the discussions should continue in a focused environment. The Monitor reports that it has canvassed many stakeholder groups with respect to their position regarding a brief stay extension request. The Report notes that many of the stakeholder groups either support or do not oppose the extension to allow the productive discussions to continue. For these reasons, and to maintain stability while the meaningful discussions continue, the Monitor recommends that the request for an extension of the stay period be granted.
