(TSX:STE) announced today that\nit has concluded a tentative renewal collective agreement with Local 1005\nUnited Steelworkers, which represents 2,400 hourly employees at the Company's\nHamilton facilities, Hamilton Steel.\nThe proposed four-year agreement will succeed the current collective\nagreement, which expires on July 31, 2006. Details will not be disclosed until\nthe agreement has been presented to and voted on by the Local membership.\nRodney B. Mott, Stelco President and Chief Executive Officer, stated\nthat, \"It has been a priority to indicate to Hamilton Steel's employees,\ncustomers, and shareholders our desire to ensure the long-term viability of\nHamilton Steel Works and also recognize the need for competitive wages and\nproper benefits. The steelworkers are the foundation of any steel company and\nthey should be better utilized to enhance productivity and profitability. This\nagreement reflects that belief and will enable Stelco and all of its employees\nto work together, to pursue growth, and to generate value as we move forward\".\n\"I am very pleased with the positive and productive discussions between\nthe Company and Local 1005 during the negotiation process.
