This venture\ncombines NAT Seattle's JetLAN Hardware with Star Navigation's ISMS(TM)\nsoftware.\nThe In-Flight Safety Monitoring System (ISMS)(TM) is a complete data\nacquisition, monitoring and transmission system designed and patented by Star\nNavigation Systems, which includes a JetLAN Airborne Server Unit, Satcom\nreceiver / transmitter, an antenna and associated cabling with no interference\nto the cockpit.\nThe system, operation of which is automatic and therefore independent of\nflight crew management, performs data acquisition of the following functions:\n\n- Flight parameters such as airspeed, heading, pitch and roll\n- Engine data and position information from the on-board Flight Data\n Recorder (FDR)\n- Position reporting, destination information and crew flight time\n tracking from the Flight Management System (FMS)\n- Cabin and cockpit information from the Air Data System\n\nAll of these functions are transmitted to the JetLAN through the ARINC\n429 or ARINC 573 / 717 data busses and decoded and analyzed with ISMS(TM)\nsoftware. The data is communicated and monitored through a secure Internet\nsite.\nThe ISMS(TM) is the first system in the world to feature in-flight data\nmonitoring and diagnostics with a real-time, secure connection between\naircraft and ground, made possible through current technology and satellite\ntransmission.\nThe system has been tested and certified for airworthiness by world\ntransport authorities including the FAA and Transport Canada.
