[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nMONTREAL, Aug. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montreal Exchange (TSX: MXX) is\nissuing the following clarifications regarding its stock index futures.\n\n\nThe Exchange holds a license from Standard and Poor's to use the\nS&P/TSX 60 Index as a support for futures contracts (SXF) and options until\nJune 2009. The Exchange continues to develop these contracts which represented\n6% of its total revenues for the first half of 2007.\n\n\nThe Exchange would like to reiterate that the success of a futures\ncontract depends primarily on the quality of the trading and clearing\nservices, the market model and its regulatory framework, the level of\nliquidity and open interest reached and the critical mass of domestic and\nforeign participants.\n\n\nIn light of the announcement made this morning regarding the agreement\nbetween TSX and S&P, the Exchange is examining all of its options regarding\nthe period subsequent to June 2009 and will continue to act, in close\ncooperation with market participants, in the interest of the Canadian capital\nmarket development.\n\n\nAbout Montreal Exchange Inc.\n\n\nThe Montreal Exchange (MX) is Canada's financial derivatives exchange.\nThe MX offers trading in Canadian interest rate, index and equity derivatives.\nClearing, settlement and risk management services are provided by an AA rated\nclearing house, the Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation, fully owned by\nthe MX.
