Sports Internet and Yahoo! enter ground breaking on-line agreement
Sports Internet, one of Europe's leading Internet sports content and
statistics groups, is delighted to announce that it has entered into
an on-line promotional and distribution relationship with Yahoo!
Inc., a global Internet media company that offers a branded network
of media, commerce and communication services to more than 105
million users worldwide.
The Board of Sports Internet is delighted to announce that it has
entered into an online relationship with Yahoo! Inc., one of the
leading Internet companies in the world. The relationship provides for
Opta Index to supply its unique library of football statistics to
Yahoo! Sports' (http://sports.yahoo.com) FA Carling Premiership League
Fantasy Football Game (http://soccer.fantasysports.yahoo.com/premier).
This is a free weekly game that lets Yahoo! users run their own fantasy
team of real professional football players from the midseason battles
of December 1999 through to the deciding matches in May 2000. The goal
of Fantasy Football is to earn more points than other fantasy teams by
choosing an 11-man lineup while staying under an available unit cap.
Users can link directly from player game pages to www.optasoccer.com
for related player statistics and information. Optasoccer.com was
launched by Sports Internet on December 8, 1999.
In addition, the FA Carling Premiership Fantasy Football Game,
launched on 17 December 1999, will be actively promoted on Yahoo!
Sports, accessible at both http://sports.yahoo.com and
http://uk.sports.yahoo.com.
Tonya Antonucci, senior producer, Yahoo! Sports, said:
'Whether fantasy game players are casual sports fans or football
fanatics, Yahoo! Sports FA Carling Premiership League Fantasy Football
Game lets every football fan take their love of the game to the next
level. Through our relationship with Sports Internet, Yahoo! users can
simulate the personnel decisions of a club manager, experiencing both
the entertaining and realistic side of this top-flight European pro
league. Team managers have the freedom to set their fantasy team
strategy, choose the side's formation, and make daily personnel changes
from a player lineup page.'
Jeremy Fenn, Chief Executive of Sports Internet, commented:
'Yahoo! is a market leader in the world of the Internet. We are
flattered to be the first UK entity to whom Yahoo! has extended the
opportunity to link directly from its fantasy game to outside player
pages. The traffic that we expect to be directed to optasoccer.com
from Yahoo! will, we believe, greatly accelerate its establishment as
the number one generic football website. We will continue to build
relationships with market leaders to maintain our position as Europe's
leading Internet sports content, statistics and gaming group.'
