SPORTS INTERNET GROUP PLC 5 August 1999 SPORTS INTERNET GROUP PLC ('Sports Internet' or 'the Company') Opta Index Wins New Statistics Contract Sports Internet, the Internet sports, betting and gaming group which recently acquired Opta Index Limited ('Opta '), announces that Opta has secured an exclusive three year contract to act as official statistics provider to all three divisions of the Nationwide Football League. Sports Internet is pleased to announce that Opta, which it acquired in June 1999, has won an exclusive three-year contract as Official Statistician for Divisions 1, 2 and 3 of the Nationwide Football League. Opta has simultaneously signed an agreement with The Nationwide Building Society to produce statistics under their banner - 'Nationwide Statistics, compiled by Carling Opta'. The Nationwide contract, together with Opta's existing contract as Official Statistician to the FA Premier League, makes Carling Opta the sole provider of statistics to the professional game in England. Established in 1996, Opta is a sports media and information company, which has developed the concept of an index to analyse the performance of players and teams within the FA Premier League. The new Nationwide League contract is further recognition of the validity of that concept.
