(TSX: SDI), and Toray\nMedical Co.,Ltd. today announced the launch of a combined diagnostic and\ntherapeutic strategic alliance for the management of severe sepsis.\nSpectral and Toray will begin validating and promoting the application of\nSpectral's EAA(TM) Endotoxin measurement assay with Toray's Toraymyxin, a\nmedical device approved for the removal of Endotoxin. Toray and Spectral\nbelieve that this \"theranostic\" application of its products is the first of\nits kind for the treatment of sepsis focused on endotoxin management.\n\"The management of sepsis remains a serious financial and health\nchallenge world wide. Many potential therapeutics have failed to gain approval\nin part due to the difficulty in properly selecting the correct patients for\ntreatment and the inability to monitor the effectiveness of the therapy.\nSpectral's sepsis test, the Endotoxin Activity Assay (EAA(TM)), gives results\nof the levels of blood borne Endotoxin within 20 minutes, and can direct the\nuse of the Toray Endotoxin removal system in these patients, as well as\nmonitor the successful removal of the Endotoxin, \", stated Dr. Paul Walker,\nPresident and CEO.\n\"Toray is very pleased to form this alliance with Spectral to introduce\nthe EAA assay in combination with Toraymyxin, and believes that this approach\ncould have significant benefits for the management of sepsis patients\" stated\nDr. Hisataka Shoji, Managing Director.\nSpectral is currently commercializing its FDA approved test for risk of\ndeveloping severe sepsis, which is the only FDA approved method for measuring\nEndotoxin, a most common mediator of sepsis.
