Spectral and Toray expand collaboration to include new geographic territories

Ltd.\nfor the marketing and sale of Spectral's Endotoxin Activity Assay (EAA(TM)),\nthe only FDA cleared assay for the measurement of endotoxin. Under the terms\nof the new collaboration agreement, Spectral will have access to Toray's\ndistributors in new geographic territories including China, India, Russia and\nCanada for the sales and promotion of EAA(TM) in combination with its\nToraymyxin blood purification device, which removes endotoxin from the\nbloodstream. These distributors will also market and sell the EAA(TM)\ndiagnostic as a stand-alone product.\n\n\n"Through our existing agreements, we have been establishing the value of\nour EAA(TM) diagnostic in combination with Toray's blood purification device\nin Japan and Europe," said Dr. Paul Walker, President and CEO of Spectral\nDiagnostics. "This expansion of our collaboration with Toray will strengthen\nour presence in additional geographic territories - a key component in the\nglobal commercialization strategy for our EAA(TM) product. The arrangement\nfurther highlights the benefits of using EAA(TM) to identify patients most\nlikely to benefit from anti-endotoxin therapies."\n\n\nToray and Spectral will work together to commercialize EAA(TM) and\nToraymyxin through the distributors, including holding jointly sponsored\nmarketing events. Various distribution agreements related to this arrangement\nare expected to be finalized over the remainder of Spectral's 2008 fiscal\nyear.\n\n\nAbout Toraymyxin\n\n\nToraymyxin, a blood purification device, absorbs the bacterial toxin\n(endotoxin) that causes sepsis and septic shock using a special fiber. It\nconsists of a plastic cylindrical container filled with a special fiber\ncomposite immobilized with the antibiotic polymyxin B, which has high affinity\nfor endotoxin.
