("SONIC" or\n"the Company": TSX-V:SNV) confirmed today that it has applied for its second\nprocess patent relating to the use of sonic energy in the non-conventional oil\nsector. SONIC's application (USPTO Provisional Application for Patent No.\n61/035,690 - "Methods for Upgrading Heavy Oil") relates to the work the\nCompany has undertaken in collaboration with PetroSonic Energy Systems Inc.\n\n\nSONIC's latest Sonoprocess(TM) is expected to enable heavy oil producers\nto improve the viscosity and API (American Petroleum Institute gravity) of\nheavy oil in upstream and midstream processes without the need to blend with\nlighter oils. SONIC's process is very energy efficient relative to\nconventional refining and, thus, makes the overall industry production\npetroleum products from heavy oil more efficient by reducing the refining\nrequirement.\n\n\nTraditional heavy oil and oil sands deposits are vital to satisfying\nworld oil demand. Heavy crude oils and bitumens comprise two thirds of total\nglobal hydrocarbon resources and the greatest growth in the supply of oil is\nexpected to come from these sources(1). Heavy oil and bitumen must both be\npartially upgraded prior to further processing, transport and distribution.\n\n\nAdam Sumel, SONIC's CEO, commented, "Following the positive results from\nour recent development and test work, this patent filing will expand and\nextend SONIC's competitive position. Perhaps more importantly, this latest\ncollaborative innovation is evidence of the progress the Company has made in\ndiversifying Sonoprocess(TM) technology in major industry sectors".\n\n\nSONIC conducted the work at its Sonoprocess(TM) Development and\nDemonstration facility in British Columbia where the Company is concurrently\nworking on other opportunities. Under SONIC's collaboration agreement,\nPetroSonic holds an option to licence its heavy oil Sonoprocess(TM).\n\n\nSONIC at Globe 2008 in Vancouver\n\n\nSONIC is an exhibitor at Globe 2008 currently taking place in Vancouver.\nThe Company has several collaborations for Sonoprocess(TM) technologies based\non the Company's core sonic generator technology.
