Biomira to present at 8th International Workshop on Carcinoma-Associated Mucins Conference

EDMONTON, July 7 /CNW/ - Biomira Inc. (Nasdaq:BIOM) (TSX:BRA) announced
today that Rao Koganty, PhD, Vice President and General Manager of Biomira's
Synthetic Biologics Unit is scheduled to present at the upcoming 8th
International Workshop on Carcinoma-Associated Mucins Conference. The
conference is to be held at Robinson College, Cambridge, U.K. July 9-13, 2005.
Dr. Koganty's presentation is part of a session planned for July 13, 2005 from
11:35 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. (GMT + 1.00) entitled "Mucins and Disease". His
presentation is entitled, "BGLP40: A synthetic segment of MUC1 as a
glycopeptide antigen for the immunotherapy of cancers."
"Dr. Koganty's presentation is an excellent opportunity to highlight our
internal work in the mucins area," said Alex McPherson, MD, PhD, President and
CEO of Biomira. "BGLP40 is our third generation product candidate and we
believe a compelling step forward in vaccine development. We are now looking
to partner this product candidate as part of our growth strategy."
The International Workshop in Cambridge is a biannual event that allows
scientists from around the world to come together to discuss their work in
this field. The first such conference was held in 1992.

BGLP40
BGLP40, Biomira's third generation vaccine, is a completely synthetic
MUC1-based liposomal, multiple target cancer vaccine, which may provide
benefit in several cancer indications. BGLP40 is designed to evoke both a
cellular and humoral immune response.

Synthetic Biologics Unit
In April 2005 we created a Synthetic Biologics Unit, headed by
Dr. Koganty, to take advantage of the strong potential in chemically
synthesized biologicals for use in protective and therapeutic vaccines. We
have developed technologies that can be used by other companies developing
non-competing vaccine technology. This new business unit will complement our
current programs and provide new upside business potential in the future.

Biomira Inc.
Biomira is a biotechnology company specializing in the development of
innovative therapeutic approaches to cancer management. Biomira's commitment
to the treatment of cancer currently focuses on the development of synthetic
vaccines and novel strategies for cancer immunotherapy. We are The Cancer
Vaccine People(TM).
