[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\n\nEDMONTON, July 24, 2012 /CNW/ - Shoppers Drug Mart will commence the\n demolition of the former Cromdale Hotel in Edmonton this week in\n preparation for plans to construct a new store on the property. It is\n expected that the demolition will take just over a month and that\n construction of the new store will begin in September 2012.\n\n\n\"Through the revitalization of communities and support of urban\n development projects, we continue to ensure we remain one of the top\n urban economies in the country,\" said Mayor Stephen Mandel. \"To that\n end, we are pleased that Shoppers Drug Mart has chosen to invest in its\n real estate network in the City of Edmonton.\"\n\n\nThe new 10,500 square foot store will be a relocation of the current\n Shoppers Drug Mart store located just down the street at 9452 118th Avenue, and is expected to open in spring 2013.\n\n\n\"The construction of this new Shoppers Drug Mart location is a great\n investment into the health care services and retail offering for our\n Ward,\" says Tony Caterina, City of Edmonton, Ward 7 Councillor. \"This\n is another great step in our plans to rejuvenate 118th Avenue and to provide better amenities and services for our residents.\"\n\n\n\"On behalf of Shoppers Drug Mart, I want to thank Mayor, Stephen Mandel\n and City Councillor, Tony Caterina, as well as City Administration for\n their support,\" said Loreen Paananen, Executive Vice-President, Network\n Development, Shoppers Drug Mart. \"Throughout the entire approval\n process, we were very appreciative of the assistance and guidance that\n these individuals provided us and without their support we would not\n have seen this project come to fruition.\"\n\n\nAs an integral part of the community, the Shoppers Drug Mart store and\n staff look forward to continuing to servicing the health and wellness\n needs of residents, as well as providing its core offering of pharmacy,\n beauty and convenience all at an enhanced experience.  The new store\n will feature a cosmetics department, where customers will find new and\n exciting cosmetic brands, a convenience food & beverage section\n including a larger assortment of everyday food items including milk,\n eggs and bread, along with the popular Simply Food line.
