A case in point, Messenger\n \n \n Ribonucleic Acid\n \n \n (\n \n \n mRNA), a well-studied technology that was\nthought of as a\n \n \n dismissed idea is now a leading\ntechnology in the COVID-19 vaccine race\n \n \n \n \n 1\n \n \n \n \n .  It was due to the pandemic that a little-known German\nBiotech working in the mRNA space called BioNTech burst onto the\nmarket.\n \n \n Though there had been a first FDA\napproval of an RNA drug granted to\n \n \n Alnylam\nPharmaceuticals as recently as\n \n \n August 2018 it\nwas for an ultra-rare disease and didn’t get much attention.\n \n \n \n \n The real news in this space came when\nBioNTech and Pfizer announced they had a vaccine for\nCOVID-19\n \n \n that promises an amazing 95% efficacy\nagainst the devastating disease.  Achieving this rate of\neffectiveness is unheard of in the vaccine space, but using this\nalmost forgotten technology, coming out of a little-known mRNA\ncompany, not only achieved it, but did so in under a year!  It should\nbe noted that BioNTech has been around since 2008, so although they\naccomplished the development of a COVID-19 vaccine in under a year,\nthe company has 12 plus years of research behind it, not to mention\nthe years of research performed by the scientists who formed BioNTech.\n \n \n \n \n In 2018 there were only a handful of\ncompanies in the RNA space,\n \n \n essentially known\nonly to those of us who have studied the field.  It is remarkable\nthat in just 2 years this technology has come so far so quickly.\n \n \n There is no qu...
