SAMSys Readers to be Used for Demos at Microsoft Tech-Ed 2005 Europe TORONTO, July 5 /CNW/ - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY: TSX), an international provider of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) hardware solutions, today announced that all of its RFID UHF readers support the RFID Infrastructure that Microsoft unveiled last month to simplify integration and deployment of RFID solutions. The support ensures that SAMSys readers will be able to exchange data with Microsoft software, including critical RFID tag information that can be used to track and analyze the movement of products throughout the supply chain, when the Microsoft technology becomes available. SAMSys has been involved with Microsoft's RFID initiative for 18 months and participated in two Microsoft RFID projects designed to showcase early versions of the middleware. As part of those projects with KiMs, the leading Danish snack food company, and Link Snacks, Inc., the world leader in meat snacks and producer of Jack Link's(R) Beef Jerky, SAMSys delivered the first production RFID readers capable of communicating with Microsoft's RFID framework. Today that support extends to all SAMSys readers, including the SAMSys 9310, 9311, 9320 v2.7 and the new 9320 2.8, the first commercially available RFID UHF reader that can read tags that conform to the EPC Generation Two (Gen 2) standard. SAMSys' newest reader also supports the full array of first-generation tag protocols, making it possible to deploy Gen 2 tags alongside legacy RFID installations without having to change the entire tag infrastructure. SAMSys RFID readers will be used to demonstrate an early version of Microsoft's RFID Infrastructure at the Microsoft Tech-Ed Europe conference that opens today in Amsterdam. "There is an urgent need for solutions that simplify and lower the cost of RFID implementations, and Microsoft's initiative is a major step toward that goal," said Cliff Horwitz, chairman, CEO and president of SAMSys Technologies, Inc. "With a solution that allows RFID implementations to be configured and managed with a familiar Microsoft interface, companies of all sizes will be able to easily integrate RFID into their operations, manage RFID devices without excessive overhead, and realize the potential of RFID for bringing new efficiencies and intelligence into the supply chain." "Our goal is to stimulate widespread adoption of RFID technology by offering software that will make it easy and economical to implement RFID- enabled solutions," said Ted Kummert, Corporate Vice President of the Business Process and Integration Division at Microsoft Corp. "The support of hardware partners like SAMSys is critical to helping ensure that we meet those objectives." Microsoft's RFID Infrastructure, based on the Microsoft .NET framework, will include an advanced device management layer and a robust event management layer that can be embedded in third party applications.
