As cybercrime has grown to become the third-largest economy in the world\n \n\n 1\n \n\n , the average Canadian may not yet fully understand the scale or nature of the risks they face.\n \n\n \"Generative AI is transforming cybercrime, enabling fraudsters to automate scams, create deepfakes, and exploit the digital footprints Canadians leave behind every day,\" said\n \n Adam Evans\n \n , Chief Information Security Officer at RBC. \"Managing your digital persona is now a crucial part of protecting your most valuable asset: your data.\"\n \n\n\n Key findings from recent RBC polls:\n \n\n\n\n\n Top concerns:\n \n 84 per cent of Canadians are concerned about identity theft, 80 per cent about online\n \n fraud\n \n , and 79 per cent about corporate data breaches.\n \n\n\n Scam awareness and fatigue:\n \n Almost all respondents (98 per cent) reported seeing more targeted and sophisticated scams, with 89 per cent noting a rise in scam attempts compared to previous years. A majority (86 per cent) believe it is becoming harder to recognize scams, while 65 per cent report feeling fatigued by constant vigilance.
