"Remoting on Demand" Eliminates Desktops and Laptops, Increases Security,
Compliance at Less than Half of the Cost
TORONTO, June 9 /CNW/ - Route1 Launch Day - The traditional approach to
enterprise computing entails providing each user with a desktop or laptop
computer (and sometimes both), ensuring that corporate data is secured to meet
legislated compliance, and managing an ever growing population of mobile
users. That paradigm is about to get crushed by a new computing model that
meets all the above criteria at less than half of the total cost of ownership.
Route1(TM) (TSX-V:ROI), an innovator in wireless remote computing,
and IBM Canada will today demonstrate "Remoting on Demand", a combination
of Route1's groundbreaking Mobi Solution running on IBM eServer(R)
BladeCenter(TM), that can displace as many as 224 concurrent desktops
per fully loaded BladeCenter and delivering increased security and mobility.
"Remoting" Meets "On Demand"
"A core design point of the IBM BladeCenter and Total Storage offerings
is to drive out cost through reduced administration and infrastructure
simplification savings," said Ayman Antoun, vice president of small and medium
business, IBM Canada Ltd. "Route1's Mobi Solution, coupled with the IBM
hardware platform, allows businesses to take those savings to the next level."
BladeCenter comprises a single chassis which can contain up to 14 Blade
Servers, each with its own processors, memory, storage and operating system
but sharing power, cooling fans, floppy drives, network switches and ports.
The Route1 Mobi Solution can enable up to 16 users to share a single Blade
Server.
"The combination of the Mobi Solution with the IBM eServer BladeCenter
achieves a new cost dynamic that delivers higher uptime, greater physical and
data security, higher user productivity, and substantial savings on operating
expenditures," said Andrew White, CEO, Route1.
The Mobi Solution, which is comprised of the MobiBook PRO device and
the managed MobiNET remoting service, automatically utilizes all of the
existing wireless and mobile network infrastructures available today -
cellular data, WiFi, and LAN -- to give users a seamless and secure remote
computing experience to desktop and corporate data. The Mobi Solution comes
pre-configured with all the functionality and essential security requirements
that allow users to remotely operate their office applications, but unlike
existing remote access solutions, all applications and data with the Mobi
Solution remain safely behind the corporate firewall.
When combined with an IBM eServer BladeCenter the Mobi Solution:
- Eliminates the "data everywhere" security problem, even inside the
company as the combined solution does not store data locally;
- Enables the recentralization of applications and corporate data, which
reside on the IBM eServer BladeCenter and Total Storage hardware,
where they are secured in a locked and controlled environment;
- Allows IT personnel to control a user's ability to connect mass
storage devices and download data or upload unauthorized software,
meeting stringent security regulations such as in certain
government/military installations where users must deposit their hard
drives to a safe/lockbox when they are not in use;
- Achieves a huge savings in hardware, facilities, electrical, IT
administration and other soft costs, such as reducing desktop support
staff levels by 60%;
- Enables total compliance with every country's privacy legislation as
related to the handling of electronic information.
