Following the water issues encountered during the RC drilling of the gossan earlier this year, 35 hand-grab samples were collected from underground workings, put in place by the artisanal workers in the area. Results indicate that there are significant grades of easily recoverable gold in this body.\n\n\n\n\nResults:\n\n\n12 Samples\n\n\n1 to 5 g/t Au\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n14 Samples\n\n\n5 to 20 g/t Au\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n1 Sample\n\n\n35.8 g/t Au\n\n\n\n\nThe Macalder gossan body, developed through long-term oxidation of the massive sulphide ores, was not fully exploited during commercial mining of the deposit, and much of it remains in-place to this day. It is currently being worked on a small scale by local artisanal workers. Their underground workings were used to collect 35 grab samples from the full strike-length of the body, the analytical results from which are presented here (figure 1). \nFigure 1: \nhttp://www.rns-pdf.londonstockexchange.com/rns/1973O_-2010-6-24.pdf\nHistorical sections indicate that the body averages around 6m in thickness and extends to 30m depth where there is an abrupt contact with the underlying sulphide mineralisation. Systematic exploration of this body is an outstanding question; the ground is in places unstable for access by drilling equipment, and the presence of underground workings carries the risk of equipment loss. The body is worthy of further exploration effort and may merit a small open operation. \nThe gossan body lies in the immediate vicinity of the Macalder tailings impoundment, the subject of a separate evaluation, and as such is amenable, in logistical terms, to exploitation simultaneously with the tailings materials. Mains electricity is available from Macalder town, some 500m to the east, and a year-round water supply is present 500m to the west of the gossan body.\nThe technical information in this announcement has been reviewed and approved for release by Helen Salmon, BSc(Hons) a geologist working for the Company, a Fellow of the Geological S...
