(TSX-V: QPT) ("Quest" or\nthe "Company"), a pharmaceutical company developing and commercializing\nproducts for the treatment of cancer and dermatological conditions, today\nannounced that it has formed a strategic alliance with IntelligentNano Inc.\nand, as a result of the alliance, the two groups have created a water soluble\nnano-formulation of Quest's SL052 technology, which has the potential to\naddress a wider range of clinical needs than Quest's current formulation of\nSL052.\n\n\n"We have successfully used nanoparticles to make SL052 water soluble\nwhile maintaining the biological activity of the drug, whether activated by\nlight or ultrasound," said Dr. Jie Chen, Chief Technology Officer for\nIntelligentNano, a spin-off company from the Canadian National Research\nCouncil's National Institute for Nanotechnology.\n\n\n"The fulfillment of a second tier of targetable, water-soluble\nnano-formulations of the SonoLight compounds represents major progress in the\nadaptation of Hypocrellin-based photodynamic and sonodynamic therapy to a wide\nspectrum of clinical needs including cancer treatment," stated Dr. Madi R.\nMadiyalakan, Chief Executive Officer at Quest.\n\n\nThe alliance between Quest and IntelligentNano was forged to explore the\npotential of nanotechnology to provide a multiplicity of biocompatible drug\ndelivery systems for clinical applications of Quest's proprietary SonoLight\ntechnology platform. Current SonoLight photosensitizer and sonosensitizer\nformulations are based upon liposomal drug delivery systems which target the\ndrug to the desired sites of photodynamic or sonodynamic therapies. Quest\nintends to initiate a series of preclinical studies with these new\nformulations and arrive at a clinical plan for Quest's second cancer\nindication.\n\n\nThe results from the product development initiative will be presented at\nthe prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.\n/National Institute of Health conference (IEEE/NIH) to be held on April 9,\n2009 at the National Institute of Health in Maryland, USA.\n\n\nThe strategic alliance between Quest and IntelligentNano was made\npossible by financial and strategic support from the National Research\nCouncil's Industrial Rese...
