EDMONTON, Aug. 22 /CNW/ - Altachem Pharma Ltd. ("Altachem") has received
testing results from the Shanghai Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in
China (Shanghai Academy of Preventative Medicine) which validates the use of
the Bionex formulation submitted as a hand gel disinfectant for medical and
commercial applications in China. This is the second series of successful
tests for Bionex and follows the earlier approval of Bionex as a Hard Surface
disinfectant, received in December, 2004. The results will allow Altachem to
file an application with the Chinese Ministry of Health for product approval.
Bionex Hand Gel can be used for the disinfection of hands and forearms of
medical staff before surgery or other aseptic procedures and for general use
as a waterless hand and skin disinfectant for infection control.
"This is further validation of the utility of Bionex and should add to
the value of the product as we seek partners for its further development,"
remarked Dr. David Cox, President and CEO, "Although Altachem is now focused
mainly on its anti-cancer programs, it is a significant bonus for us to
receive further evidence of the considerable potential of the Bionex range of
products".
The tests performed by the Shanghai Centre for Disease Control and
Prevention evaluated two formulations of the Bionex Hand Gel, containing 60%
and 40% alcohol respectively. Both formulations passed all of the tests
required by the Chinese National Technical Standards for Disinfection. The 40%
formulation represents one of the lowest alcohol concentrations in hand gels.
This is important because it minimizes the skin-drying effect of higher
alcohol content hand gels as well as reducing manufacturing costs.
