election -

EDMONTON, Aug. 10 /CNW/ - Altachem Pharma Ltd. ("Altachem" or "The
Company") today announces management's nominations for election to its Board
of Directors at its upcoming Annual and Special Shareholders' Meeting. In
addition to the current four board members, the slate includes Dr. Don Rix,
Chairman of MDS Metro Laboratory Services and Mr. Rick Smith, President & CEO
of Dow AgroSciences Canada.

President & CEO of Altachem. "The addition of Dr. Rix and Mr. Smith would
considerably strengthen our board and be another key step in the continued

Dr. Rix is an active member of the biotechnology industry, having served
on the boards of many organizations, including various biotechnology and
technology companies. He recently received the Lifetime Leadership and
Achievement Award from the B.C. Biotechnology Alliance for his contributions
to the biotechnology sector. Dr. Rix is one of the owners and founders and
currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MDS Metro Laboratory
Services, the largest independent community medical laboratory in British
Columbia. He is also one of the owners and founders and currently Chairman of
Cantest Ltd. based in Vancouver, B.C. Dr. Rix currently serves on the B.C.
Innovation Council, B.C. Medical Services Foundation, and B.C. Children's
Hospital Foundation. He is also a board member of MDS Ventures Pacific Inc.,
Genyous Inc., Genome B.C. and B.C. Advantage Funds (VCC) Ltd. Dr. Rix received
a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1953 and an MD in 1957. His
honors include a Fellowship in General Pathology (FRCP), College of General
Practice (Canada) honorary Life Membership, in 2001, an honorary Diploma of
Technology from the B.C. Institute of Technology in 1985, an honorary Doctor
of Technology from the B.C. Institute of Technology in 2003, the degree of
Doctor of Science, honoris causa from the University of Western Ontario in
1998, an honorary Doctor of Science from Simon Fraser University in 2004 and
the Order of B.C. in June, 2004.
Mr. Smith is the President and CEO of Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc., a
wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company. Mr. Smith has also held
senior management positions in the life sciences area, including human
pharmaceuticals, animal health and plant sciences with Eli Lilly and Company
and has been involved with several commercialization initiatives in plant
biotechnology. He is currently Chairman of the Board of SemBioSys Genetics
Inc. (TSX:SBS) and is an independent director of Commercial Solutions Inc.
(TSXV:CSA). Mr. Smith is also the founding chairman of BioProducts Canada Inc.
and is a director and Executive Committee member of each of: BIOTECanada,
BioAlberta, CropLife Canada and the Agricultural Warehousing Standards
Association. He attended the University of Waterloo where he received his
B.Sc. (Applied Chemistry) in 1971 and his M.Sc. (Biochemistry) in 1972.
The Company's Annual and Special Meeting will be held at 3:00 pm
(Edmonton time) on September 15, 2005 at the Greenwood Inn at 4485 Gateway
Blvd., Edmonton, Alberta. Information pertaining to the nomination of
