Brainspark PLC 28 June 2000 BRAINSPARK ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Brainspark PLC, the incubator focused on germinating and developing internet related businesses, announced today the appointment of Mark Harford to its board of directors as CFO. Mark joined Brainspark in May from Bass PLC, where he was most recently Director of Strategic and Financial Planning for Bass Leisure Retail, the company's pubs, bars and restaurants division. Whilst at Bass he spent much of the past two years engaged in the £2bn Intercontinental Hotels acquisition and the £1bn pubs acquisition from Punch Taverns. He was also involved in many smaller hotels and pubs/restaurants deals both in the UK and overseas. At Brainspark Mark's role will cover all aspects of the CFO's remit, with particular focus on deal management and investor relations. To the executive management team he adds specific strategic, financial, and analytical skills, as well as experience in designing and managing effective processes and systems in companies ranging from the very small to the very large. A significant part of his role will be to work closely with Brainspark's cub companies to help develop their own planning and control capabilities. Prior to Bass and Brainspark Mark s career was as a strategy consultant. He holds an MBA from INSEAD. Commenting on his appointment, Mark Harford said: 'I am delighted to have joined Brainspark. Mark Harford has no unspent convictions in relation to indictable offences, has not been declared bankrupt nor has he been a director of any company which, during his time as a director or, within 12 months following his resignation as a director, has gone into receivership or liquidation.
