About this update from Protokinetix, Inc.
[{"type":"text","content":"\n \n ProtoKinetix, Incorporated (www.protokinetix.com) \n (the \"Company\" or \"ProtoKinetix\") (OTCQB:PKTX) \n is pleased to provide a scientific update to its stockholders. The \n Company is exploring the following areas for the use of its AAGP™ family \n of molecules:\n \n \n Presently at the University of Alberta:\n \n \n 1. Diabetes (study started February 2017)\n \n \n The PKX-001 (AAGP™’s clinical name) Study is treating islet cells prior \n to transplantation into human test subjects. The clinical trials are \n assessing any side effects or physiological damage to the test subjects. \n The study is looking for indications of protection from tacrolimus \n toxicity and enhanced engraftment survival of the transplanted cells.\n \n \n The clinical trials are well underway and will continue throughout the \n end of the year with enrollment of up to ten patients. To obtain \n additional information and updates regarding the trials please use the \n following link: Clinicaltrials.gov \n - Islet Transplantation Using PKX-001.\n \n \n 2. Kidney Ischemia (anticipated start date 4th \n quarter 2017)\n \n \n Ischemia is a condition that occurs when blood flow to cells, tissues or \n organs is severely restricted. This condition can affect any part of the \n human body. When this circumstance transpires, cell death and organ \n damage follows very rapidly. Ischemia is a major cause of kidney damage, \n heart attacks and strokes.\n \n \n Our testing is to determine whether AAGP™ can reduce the inflammatory \n response that causes cell damage and organ failure that occurs during an \n ischemic attack.\n \n \n 3. Normothermic Liver Perfusion (start date to be determined)\n \n \n Normothermic (body temperature), ex vivo (outside the body) liver \n perfusion (method of irrigation) is an innovative therapy applied to \n donor livers outside of the body before transplantation that improves \n organ quality and makes organs that were previously unsuitable safe for \n transplant.\n \n \n Our planned testing is to determine the beneficial effects of adding \n AAGP™ to the perfusate solution. Perfusate solutions are used to protect \n donor organs from the period of harvest until transplantation. We hope \n to evidence that AAGP™ can extend the viable life of harvested \n transplant organs.\n \n \n Presently...
