ProtoKinetix Begins Testing Diabetic Mice with AAGP™ at the University of Alberta.

About this update from Protokinetix, Inc.
[{"type":"text","content":"\n \n ProtoKinetix, \n Incorporated (OTC: PKTX) (the \"Company\" or \"ProtoKinetix\") (www.protokinetix.com) \n is pleased to announce that it has begun testing NOD (Non Obese \n Diabetic) mice with its AAGP™ molecule at the James Shapiro laboratory \n at the University of Alberta.\n \n \n Type 1, diabetic NOD mice with AAGP™ versus a control group of Type 1, \n diabetic NOD mice without AAGP™ will be monitored for their \n blood-glucose levels. Using the NOD mice as a model the Edmonton team \n will be specifically assessing the potentially protective effect of \n AAGP™ against the antibody attack conducted against the islet cells in \n the pancreas.\n \n \n NOD Mice, like the Bio-Breeding rat, are used as an animal model for \n Type 1 diabetes. Non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice exhibit a susceptibility \n to spontaneous development of autoimmune insulin dependent diabetes \n mellitus (IDDM). The NOD strain and related strains were \n developed at Shionogi Research Laboratories in Aburahi, Japan by Makino \n and colleagues and first reported in 1980. The group \n developed the NOD strain by an outbreeding of the cataract-prone strain \n from JcI:ICR mice.\n \n \n At the conclusion of these tests, the internal organs of the NOD mice \n will be examined for any evidence of toxicity and bioavailability. This \n data is an extremely valuable step on the critical path towards \n submissions to Health Canada or the FDA for human clinical trial \n applications.\n \n \n About the James Shapiro Laboratory\n \n \n The James Shapiro Laboratory is active experimental laboratory working \n on improving long term survival of transplanted islets, and in \n immunomodulation of transplanted tissues. He is Principal Investigator \n on several NIH and JDRF-funded clinical trials, including clinical \n testing of costimulation blockade in islet transplantation.\n \n \n About ProtoKinetix\n \n \n ProtoKinetix, Inc. is a molecular biotechnology company that has \n developed and patented a family of hyper stable, potent glycopeptides \n (AAGP™) that enhance therapeutic results and reduce the cost of stem \n cell medicine. Due to the anti-inflammatory effect of AAGP™ molecules, \n the Company is currently targeting the direct treatment of diseases that \n have a major inflammatory component.\n \n \n The Private Securiti...
