Porvair plc announces a US Department of Energy grant
and the creation of a new entity - Porvair fuel cell
technologies
Porvair plc, the advanced materials group, today announces the
award of a $650,000 US Department of Energy grant, and the
creation of a new business entity to be called Porvair Fuel
Cell Technologies:
Ben Stocks, Chief Executive of Porvair plc, comments :
'It is encouraging that in addition to trading well we are
beginning to pick up the pace of our development programme.
Our Selee subsidiary, the world's leading aluminium filtration
company, has won a grant from the US Department of Energy's
'Industries of the Future' program, to develop and test an
advanced filtration system to remove salts from molten primary
aluminum. This system is based on a newly patented Porvair
material and will produce higher quality metal, lower energy
costs and reductions in chlorine emissions. The project, which
will last 18 to 24 months, will be financed by $650,000
provided by the Industries of the Future program. The product,
once developed, will give Selee another unique offering for
the global aluminium industry.
Fuel cell systems are at an interesting stage of their
development. We have been supplying many of the major
manufacturers with prototype products for over two years.
Advanced porous materials will be central to fuel cell systems
and the Porvair Group, with its range of microporous
materials, is well placed to become a leading supplier to this
industry as it emerges over the next three to five years.
Porvair Fuel Cell Technologies will be based alongside Selee
in the US, and will marshall product and technical resources
to meet the needs of fuel cell system developers.'
