[{"type":"text","content":"Petronas Gas Bhd (PetGas),\nMalaysia’s leading gas infrastructure operator, has announced the\ncomplete restoration of gas supply to critical areas in Batu Tiga,\nShah Alam, and Connaught Bridge, The Edge Malaysia\nreports. The announcement follows the successful commissioning of a\nnewly constructed bypass pipeline on July 1, put in place after\nthe explosion incident at Putra Heights on April 1.\nThe full resumption of supply is\nvital to ensuring energy stability for households, businesses, and\nindustrial operations in the affected zones. With natural gas\naccounting for between 40% and 50% of the nation’s electricity\ngeneration, PetGas underscored its continued focus on maintaining\npublic confidence in the safety and integrity of its\ninfrastructure.\nThe company has also conducted\nthorough precautionary inspections along the 2,680-kilometre\nPeninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline, reporting that no other\nsections have shown similar risk indicators. “Monitoring efforts\nremain ongoing as part of PetGas’ continuous integrity assurance,”\nit said, adding that this proactive stance reflects its commitment\nto transparency, resilience, and safety.\nIn response to the April\nexplosion, PetGas has introduced an upgraded suite of safety\nmeasures at the new Putra Heights bypass. These include\nhigh-precision sensors for soil and pipeline movement detection,\nstructural reinforcements such as sheet piling, and advanced\nsupport systems that surpass existing regulatory\nstandards.\nThe gas-in operation commenced at\n9:30 am on July 1 at the mainline valve stations in Puchong and\nBatu Tiga, with Putra Heights following at 1:00 pm. Gas flow was\ncarefully increased in phases from 10% to 100%, and fully\nstabilised by midnight. The process was executed under strict\nadherence to engineering and regulatory safety protocols, including\nthe permit to operate issued by the Department of Occupational\nSafety and Health (DOSH).\nLooking ahead, PetGas is\ndesigning a new permanent pipeline for the area. It will feature\ndeep piled slab foundations and advanced shut-off valves for rapid\nisolation during emergencies. This design aims to enhance\nstructural durability, especially in light of ongoing land\ndevelopment surrounding the site. Stabilisation works have already\nbeen completed at the original location, and only two key pipelin...
