[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\n3rd Quarter Report\nNine Months Ended\nDecember 31, 2005\n\nTrading: TSX: ROC\n\nTORONTO, Feb. 3 /CNW/ - Rothmans Inc. today announced its results for the\nthird quarter of fiscal 2006, ended December 31, 2005.\nRothmans' earnings for the third quarter of fiscal 2006 were\n$23.3 million, or $0.34 basic earnings per share, compared with $25.4 million\nor $0.38 basic earnings per share in the third quarter of fiscal 2005. For the\nfirst nine months of this fiscal year, Rothmans' earnings were $83.1 million\nor $1.23 per share, compared with $75.7 million or $1.12 per share in the\nfirst nine months of the prior year.\nSales, net of excise duty and taxes, at 60%-owned subsidiary Rothmans,\nBenson & Hedges Inc. decreased to $157.4 million in the most recent quarter\ncompared with $164.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2005. Sales for\nthe first nine months of this fiscal year were $508.2 million versus\n$492.6 million for the same period a year earlier.\nRBH's recent quarter EBITDA margin was 43.8% compared with 50.1% in the\nprior quarter and 45.7% in the quarter ended December 31, 2004. These EBITDA\nmargin decreases were primarily the result of lower premium cigarette and fine\ncut volumes sold, only partially offset by increased volumes of price category\ncigarettes, higher prices across all product categories and reduced material\ncosts.\nRBH's share of the total domestic composite market was 31.4% for the\nquarter ended December 31, 2005, compared with 31.1% in the previous quarter\nand 30.6% in the third quarter of fiscal 2005. Premium cigarette share was\n15.9%, compared with 15.6% in the previous quarter and 15.8% during the third\nquarter of last year. RBH's share of the domestic price cigarette category of\n43.5% compared with 44.1% and 42.8% in the prior quarter and third quarter of\nfiscal 2005. In the fine cut market, RBH's share was 58.6%, down from 59.2% in\nthe prior quarter and 59.4% in the third quarter of fiscal 2005. RBH's share\nof the total domestic price category was 46.3%, compared with 47.0% in both\nthe prior quarter and third quarter of fiscal 2005.\n\nOutlook\n\n\"Variations in consumer consumption and wholesale buying patterns\ncontinue to result in quarter to quarter volatility.
