[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nVANCOUVER, May 9 /CNW/ - VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB) announces\nthe supply of a 5kW x 4hr VRB Energy Storage System(TM) (VRB-ESS) to one of\nthe largest Canadian telecommunications providers for deployment at a remote\ntelecommunications site in British Columbia. The system is provided on a trial\nbasis with defined performance targets that will initiate the purchase of the\nunit by the customer.\n\n\nThe system will be coupled with diesel generators and evaluated both in\nterms of providing uninterrupted power supply to the site and its ability to\nsignificantly reduce the amount of diesel fuel consumption, emissions and\nmaintenance costs relating to the generators. VRB Power believes the unique\nability of the VRB-ESS to run the site for a number of hours without depleting\nits UPS capabilities is one that positions it well in the telecommunications\nmarket.\n\n\nVRB Power estimates there are 2,000 telecommunications sites in North\nAmerica alone that are remote and "off grid" and currently depend on diesel\ngeneration to produce the required electricity to run the site. Recent rises\nin the price of diesel fuel are making these sites increasingly costly to\noperate and expensive to maintain. Furthermore, most telecommunications\nproviders in line with corporate policies are committed to implementing\nmeasures to minimize diesel and greenhouse gas emissions.\n\n\n"This is a great niche telecom application that only our technology can\naddress," said John Davis, Director of Sales of VRB Power. "The storage\ncomponent of our systems is independently scaleable from the power which means\nwe are able to provide a viable, cost effective solution for multiple hours of\nrun time on a daily basis. Combined with its long life-cycle, low maintenance\nrequirements, ability to operate as an energy storage system offering tens of\nthousands of full discharge cycles and as a back-up power system, the VRB-ESS\nis an ideal choice. For the first time, telecom providers can secure a fast\npayback on their capital investments for back-up power and as a way to reduce\nfuel costs at off grid sites. We are excited to be working with major telecom\nproviders to show the benefits of our systems and how we can help improve\ntheir operations."\n\n\nVRB Power Systems unveiled the new designs for the 5kW com...
