[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\nRICHMOND, BC, June 19 /CNW/ - VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB)\nannounces the sale of two additional 5kW x 4hr VRB Energy Storage Systems\n(VRB-ESS(TM)) to customers in Europe and the Middle East.\n\n\nBen Gurion University of Negev in Israel purchased a 5kW x 4 hour VRB-ESS\nto assess the benefits associated with solar energy integration at the\nUniversity's Blaustein Institute for Solar Energy. An additional system was\nsold to a large, multinational engineering organization in Germany to evaluate\nthe system and determine which in-house application it can best be used (e.g.\noff-grid solutions, power quality).\n\n\nRecently, VRB Power has commissioned multiple VRB-ESS's, which include:\n\n- Winafrique Technologies Ltd., of Kenya ("Winafrique") who are\n operating systems at two remote cellular telecommunications sites in\n Kenya with Safaricom Limited, the leading mobile telephone operator\n in Kenya (owned by Telkom Kenya and Vodafone Group Plc)\n ("Safaricom"). The installations mark the beginning of a trial of\n each system for the potential roll out of multiple systems at\n cellular telecommunications sites across East Africa; and\n\n- Edison SpA of Italy who are operating a 5kW x 4hr system for\n evaluation in a telecoms back-up application.\n\n\nTo date, VRB has sold a total of 15 small systems to 13 customers\nworldwide.\n\n\nThe marketing and sales strategy for the 5kW x 4hr VRB-ESS is focussed on\nremote telecommunication sites that are off-grid or have a weak grid\nconnection in Africa, India and the Caribbean. The design and performance\ncharacteristics of the system make it extremely well suited to address these\nspecific market requirements; particularly using a "hybrid" approach to\nproviding electricity where a diesel generator is combined with an energy\nstorage system and renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar. In these\nmarkets, the 5kW VRB-ESS offers immediate benefits such as reduced diesel\nemissions, lower life cycle costs, minimal maintenance, and longer discharge\ncapabilities with end users experiencing three to five year paybacks.\n\n\nAbout VRB Power\n\n\nHeadquartered in Richmond, Canada, VRB Power Systems Inc. is an energy\nstorage technology developer which is marketing, selling and manufacturing\nproducts utilizing the patented VRB Energy Storage...
