[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\nGSM-R Allows Full Interoperability Between French, Spanish Railway\nNetworks\n\nMADRID, Spain, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - TP Ferro, a Spanish and French railway\nconsortium, will use railway communications technology from Nortel(x) (NYSE/TSX:\nNT) for the new 44 km high-speed Figueres - Perpignan line currently being\nbuilt between Spain and France.\nThe GSM-R network will also support vital uninterrupted communications\nthroughout a sophisticated eight kilometer tunnel across the Pyrenees,\nproviding a new rail alternative for passengers and merchandise.\nExpected to open in early 2009, the new Figueres-Perpignan line will be\npart of the trans-European transport network initiative promoted by the\nEuropean Union. It will be integrated into the Southwest Europe High-Speed\nTrain Axis. As part of its common transport policy, the EU has adopted\nlegislation to pave the way for gradual establishment of an integrated\nEuropean railway area, both legally and technically. This involves the\ndevelopment and implementation of Technical Specifications for\nInteroperability including communications for which GSM-R plays an important\nrole.\nTP FERRO is a company created by the Spanish ACS and the French Eiffage,\nboth leaders in the infrastructures area in Europe, for the construction,\noperation and maintenance of this new high speed railroad line mixed traffic\nbetween Figueres and Perpignan. IFP is the consortium integrated by\nconstruction contractors Spanish Cobra and French Forclum responsible for the\nconstruction and engineering work.
