In the short term, Golden Telecom's mobile\nWiMAX trial is a significant step towards providing Moscow's citizens with\n'always on' communications available when and where they want them, through\nwhatever device. And, in the longer term the experience from the Moscow trial\nand implementation can be used to speed delivery of mobile WiMAX into other\ncities where Golden Telecom has a presence.\"\nMobile WiMAX is an efficient solution for metropolitan areas such as\nMoscow where the population density of more than 9,000 per square kilometer\nmakes it cost-efficient to install WiMAX base stations and equipment where\neach base station can potentially handle hundreds, even thousands of users.\nMobile WiMAX based on 802.16-2005 standard is currently defined by WiMAX\nForum in the 1.5, 2.3, 2.5, and 3.5GHz frequency band profiles with more\nexpected to come, and can deliver speeds of 1-10 mbps and higher. The Nortel\nGolden Telecom trial will provide a connection speed range of between 1 Mbps\nand 25 Mbps for each user which means extremely fast, in seconds rather than\nminutes, content downloads.
