[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\nYear-Long Trial of Nortel Municipal Wireless Mesh Network Part of Ariel's\n\"Smart City\" Program\n\nAIRPORT CITY, Israel, Oct. 19 /CNW/ - Nortel(x) (NYSE/TSX: NT) has launched\na municipal wireless mesh network trial in the city of Ariel, Israel, to\ndeliver high-speed broadband wireless access and advanced wireless services to\nAriel residents and municipal employees.\nFor the year-long trial, which forms part of Ariel's \"Smart City\"\nprogram, Nortel has deployed wireless mesh access points for high-speed\nwireless coverage in two key areas, along the city's pedestrian mall and at\nthe campus of the College of Judea and Samaria.\nNortel's wireless mesh solution will deliver new municipal and college\nservices to help fuel Ariel's economic development, lower operational costs,\nand improve public safety. Applications include wireless municipal\nsurveillance cameras, remote water meter readings, wireless parking and\ntraffic inspection, and wireless video and voice communications for municipal\nand college employees. High-speed Internet access for residents, visitors and\ncollege students will be provided free of charge for the duration of the\ntrial.\nRon Nachman, mayor of Ariel, who initiated and is leading Ariel's \"Smart\nCity\" program, said, \"This wireless mesh network trial is another step towards\nrealizing the 'Smart City' vision that I have been directing for several\nyears.
