[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\nUS$7.7 Million Agreement Includes Support for Hearings, Application\nEnhancements\n\nWASHINGTON, Oct. 31 /CNW/ - Nortel Government Solutions(x), a U.S. company\nwholly owned by Nortel(x) (NYSE/TSX: NT), has been selected by the U.S. Nuclear\nRegulatory Commission (NRC) to operate and maintain the NRC's digital\ncourtroom systems in Rockville, Maryland and Las Vegas, Nevada.\nNortel Government Solutions will provide these services under an\nagreement estimated at US$7.7 million over four years. The agreement also\nincludes support for NRC hearings, as well as application development and\ntesting.\nThe systems were developed by Nortel Government Solutions and delivered\nto the NRC earlier this year. They provide electronic evidence presentation,\ndigital audio and video transcripts, and electronic capture and display of\nevidence. This enables immediate electronic access to documents, and live\nvideo and audio feeds to ensure the widest possible public access to NRC\nproceedings.\nThe digital courtroom systems are designed to help the NRC's Atomic\nSafety and Licensing Board Panel simplify proceedings ranging from routine\ncases to more complicated hearings involving nuclear reactor licenses.\nOne such proceeding is the potential adjudication regarding a U.S.\nDepartment of Energy license application for a commercial nuclear reactor\nwaste storage facility at Nevada's Yucca Mountain, located 100 miles northwest\nof Las Vegas. Expected to last three to four years as mandated by Congress,\nthis could become one of the largest and most complex administrative hearings\nin U.S. history.
