[{"type":"text","content":"\n RNS Number : 5526P Morgan Sindall PLC 26 March 2009 \n \nMorgan Sindall plc\n\n26 March 2009\n\nMorgan Sindall to deliver \n£209 million A1 joint venture\n\nInfrastructure services business Morgan Est, part of construction and regeneration group Morgan Sindall plc, is to start work on a £209 million major road contract for the Highways Agency.\n\nThe award - worth over £100 million to the Group - will see Morgan Est working alongside Carillion to upgrade the southern section of the A1 from Dishforth to Barton. The total cost of the scheme is £318 million.\n\nThe works will include upgrading the two-lane dual carriageway to a three-lane motorway as well as installing low-noise surfacing to benefit local residents. The work will also protect the natural habitat of local wildlife.\n\nThe A1 is a strategically important north/south inter-regional trunk road, linking London and the South of England with the North East of England and Scotland. It also plays a key role linking other strategic routes such as the M62 and A19.\n\nWork is scheduled to start in March 2009, and is due to finish in 2012.\n\nPaul Smith, Chief Executive of Morgan Sindall plc, said:\n'This is a major road project and we have been working on the contract with the Highways Agency since 2004. Morgan Est has an excellent track record in delivering infrastructure projects of this type and we are excited to be working alongside Carillion.
