[{"type":"text","content":"\n Gleeson(M J)Group PLC\n06 March 2008\n\n\nThursday 6 March 2008\n\n\n GLEESON SELECTED AS PREFERRED DEVELOPMENT PARTNER FOR MARGATE REGENERATION\n SCHEME\n\n\n\nMJ Gleeson Group plc (GLE.L), the housing regeneration and strategic land\nspecialist, announces that the Group has been selected as preferred development\npartner for the Rendezvous Site in Margate, a substantial scheme and key\nregeneration initiative in north east Kent.\n\n\nThe Rendezvous Site is located on the seafront adjacent to Old Town, Margate,\nnext to the location of the proposed Turner Contemporary Gallery, to be designed\nby 2007 RIBA Stirling Award winner, David Chipperfield Architects, and due to\nopen in late 2010. JMW Turner, one of Britain's finest landscape and marine\nartists, was born and lived much of his life (1775-1851) in Margate.\n\n\nThe development of the Rendezvous Site is intended by Kent County Council and\nits regeneration partners to complement the Turner Contemporary Gallery and to\nreinforce the regeneration benefit. The Gleeson team's proposals, which will be\nrefined in the coming weeks, include a four star hotel, some commercial\ndevelopment and a new substantial residential crescent. The mixed-use\ndevelopment should be substantially underway by late 2010.\n\n\nDuncan Thomas, a Director in DTZ's Development Consulting team, which advised\nKent County Council on the developer selection competition, said 'We are\nextremely pleased by the decision to select Gleeson as preferred development\npartner. The quality of Gleeson's proposals, and the exciting range of uses,\nconfirm the confidence which we have had throughout the developer selection\nprocess in the Rendezvous Site as a landmark development opportunity.
