Annual General Meeting - Chairman's statement
At the Annual General meeting of Anglo Welsh Group Plc, the Chairman, David
Court, made the following statement to the Meeting:
'In my Chairman's Statement in the 1999 Annual Report I referred to a
substantial improvement in advance bookings for our holiday narrowboat fleet
for the current season. I am pleased to confirm that this, our main business,
has continued to perform strongly and consistently. Bookings remain
substantially ahead of the same time last year, and indeed ahead of the
equivalent period in 1998.
Additionally, our Timeshare Operation, the Water Time Club, is making valuable
contributions to our revenue stream, and we look forward to an improving
trend.
As announced David Daynes, who was Managing Director, resigned on 10 May, and
Bill Furniss has temporarily taken over the role. David Daynes played a major
part in achieving our AIM listing in early 1997, and we wish him well in his
future career. It is the board's intention to take early action to strengthen
the Executive Team.
Other changes to the board have been the appointment of two new non-executive
directors, David Medlock and Stephen Thomson.
David Medlock is a well known local businessman and has been a major
shareholder since flotation.
Stephen Thomson has acquired a considerable commercial reputation in assisting
companies to build profits and in particular increasing shareholder value.
We are sorry to lose David McCall who is not seeking re-election to the board.
I would like to take this opportunity of recording our thanks to David for
his very valuable contribution, support and ever wise advice over the past
three years since flotation.
Finally, for my own part, I reached the age of seventy at the end of last
year, and feel that after three years in the chair it is the right time to
hand over. Accordingly, it is my intention to vacate the chair shortly, and
allow the board to elect a successor. I will be very pleased to continue as a
non-executive director.'
