[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\n\nHALIFAX, April 11, 2013 /CNW/ - MedMira Inc., (MedMira) (TSXV: MIR), a\n developer of rapid diagnostic technology and solutions, is attending\n the US Food and Drug Administration Public Workshop on advances in\n multiplex testing taking place this week in Bethesda, MD. \n Participation in this workshop is particularly timely, as MedMira\n advances a new multiplex rapid test for the simultaneous detection of\n HIV and Hepatitis B and C towards clinical trials and the FDA approval\n process under a United States Army Medical Research Acquisition\n Activity (USAMRAA) contract.  It is anticipated that various branches\n of the US military would use the test in emergency medical situations\n and for screening transfusion transmitted diseases.\n\n\nThe purpose of the FDA Public Workshop, planned in partnership with the\n AABB, Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), America's\n Blood Centers, Department of Health and Human Services Offices of the\n Assistant Secretary of Health and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood\n Institute (NIH), is to discuss research and development of multiplex\n assays and the use of these tests in blood donor screening and blood\n cell antigen typing.\n\n\nSince being awarded the USAMRAA contract to develop and commercialize\n the Multiplo HBc/HIV/HCV Rapid Antibody Test in 2012, the Company has\n seen a growing interest in its multiplex rapid tests and technology\n platform from various organizations and individual researchers in the\n US, and around the world.  The Company was also recently invited to\n submit its multiplex test for HIV and Syphilis to the World Health\n Organization (WHO) Prequalification of Diagnostics program.\n\n\n\"We receive several inquiries a week about our Multiplo product line\n from clinics, laboratories, life sciences researchers, and organ/tissue\n banks,\" said Neeraj Vats, Director of Technology and Business Affairs,\n MedMira Inc. \"There are significant advantages in multiplex testing\n that these healthcare providers and researchers are looking for,\n including costs and time saving, the use of a single sample on one\n device, and the ability to screen for diseases that share similar\n infection paths such as blood and impact standard treatment regimens.\"\n\n\nVats continued, \"Our multiplex rapid tests and technology platform...
