CALGARY, June 9 /CNW/ - Maple Leaf Reforestation Inc. ("Maple Leaf")
announces that it has hired Mark Sandiland as its new General Manager of
Operations. Mr. Sandiland has arrived in Inner Mongolia, China where he will
commence working as the general manager of operations of Maple Leaf.
Since 1988, Mr. Sandiland was employed by Brinkman & Associates
Reforestation Ltd. Commencing in 1988, Mark initially worked as a Grower
Manager. In this capacity his work included outdoor propagation, cold frame
sowing and cold frame crop finishing, Quonset style and plastic covered gutter
connected ranges. During this time, he was involved in the development and
manufacturing of growing containers and low-cost photo period control systems
and specialized in producing Jiffy forestry containerized seedlings. Mr.
Sandiland also oversaw the management of Brinkman's nursery in North Bay,
Ontario that involved assisting that operation in meeting its revenue and
production targets.
From 1999 until May 2005 Mr Sandiland worked as Brinkman's Ontario
Restoration Manager, which involved, among other things, providing services
restoring natural environments in ecological sensitive areas. These projects
involved establishing forest ecosystems for the City of Brampton, the City of
Toronto, Downsview Park (Toronto) and the City of Hamilton. During his
employment with Brinkman, Mr. Sandiland also obtained experience with
integrated pest management systems utilizing chemical and non-chemical
treatments. Mr. Sandiland obtained a degree as a Forest Technician from Sir
Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay, Ontario in 1979.
In connection with Mr. Sandiland's employment he has been granted 400,000
stock options, having an exercise price of $0.20 and expiring 5 years from the
date of grant.
Maple Leaf is pleased to have Mr. Sandiland become involved in its
greenhouse operations and thanks Dale Currey for his contributions to
establish a foundation upon which Maple Leaf continues to build.
Maple Leaf's primary mission is to provide top quality nursery seedlings
and services for reforestation which will help to correct the environmental
concern of "desertification" in China. Maple Leaf has a 75% interest in a
joint venture contract with the County of Liang Chang, Inner Mongolia, China
(which holds the remaining 25% interest) to ultimately deliver 500 million
seedlings per year for 50 years.
