Magna AWD System Helps Hyundai Genesis Achieve New Levels of Driving Performance

About this update from Magna International Inc.

[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\n\n\n\nAURORA, ON, June 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Magna International Inc. announced\n today that its Magna Powertrain operating unit, the global leader in\n four-wheel/all-wheel-drive systems, is the supplier of the new\n all-wheel-drive (AWD) system available on the 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The\n 2015 Genesis marks the first Hyundai sedan to offer an AWD system known\n as HTRAC®.\n\n\n\"The launch of the Genesis HTRAC system is a continuation of a close\n partnership between Hyundai and Magna Powertrain on advanced\n all-wheel-drive systems,\" said Jake Hirsch, president of Magna\n Powertrain.\n\n\nThe new Genesis will be built at Hyundai's Ulsan, Korea, plant, with the\n AWD system being produced and shipped from Magna Powertrain's Lannach\n and Ilz facilities in Austria.\n\n\nHyundai's new HTRAC AWD was developed as a multi-mode system, providing\n an electronic, variable-torque-split clutch with active torque control\n between the front and rear axles. The system deploys a newly developed\n right-hand drop version of Magna Powertrain's active transfer case,\n which enabled Hyundai to overcome challenging underbody packaging\n constraints.\n\n\nHTRAC offers driver-selectable modes that adapt the AWD system\n performance. Normal and Eco modes provide more traction in all-weather\n conditions, while the Sport setting gives a more agile feel by\n increasing the amount of torque sent to the rear wheels. To maximize\n efficiency, the system directs available torque to the rear wheels\n during steady-state highway cruising, improving fuel economy and NVH.\n\n\nThis active transfer case has a wide range of torque distribution and\n has been tuned in the Genesis to optimize performance under various\n conditions such as straight-line acceleration, medium- and high-speed\n cornering and hill-starts.\n\n\nAbout Magna Powertrain\nMagna Powertrain, an operating group of Magna International, is a global\n supplier for the automotive industry with full capabilities in\n powertrain design, development, testing and manufacturing. Complete\n system integration sets us apart from our competitors, and our\n innovations make important contributions to the overall performance of\n vehicles around the world: they aim to improve fuel economy, make\n vehicles safer and lighter, ensure a pleasurable driving experience,\n and provide added value to our...
