[{"type":"text","content":"\n\n\nTORONTO, Sept. 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Magellan Aerospace announced today the\n first launch of its MAC-200 Bus on the Cascade SmallSat and IOnospheric\n Polar Explorer (CASSIOPE) satellite from the Vandenberg Air Force Base,\n CA on a Falcon 9 launch vehicle.\n\n\nCASSIOPE is a multi-purpose mission carrying 8 unique instruments to\n conduct space environment research (collectively called e-POP) and\n advanced telecommunications technology demonstration (termed Cascade).\n\n\nMr. James S. Butyniec, President and CEO of Magellan Aerospace said,\n \"The successful launch of CASSIOPE yesterday is a great accomplishment\n that we celebrate with the Canadian Space Agency, MacDonald, Dettwiler\n and Associates Ltd. (MDA), and all of the Canadian industrial\n contributors and scientists who contribute to advancing Canada's space\n technology capabilities.\"\n\n\nIn 2005, Magellan won a competitive process to develop a satellite bus\n with a flexible architecture that could be tailored to meet\n mission-specific requirements for Canada's future space missions\n including CASSIOPE.  The MAC-200 bus was designed to accommodate a\n range of mission requirements, instrument interfaces, and launcher\n environments in a cost effective manner.  The MAC-200 utilizes a fully\n redundant cross-strapped architecture that is capable of providing high\n reliability for mission lifetimes of more than 7 years.\n\n\nThe CASSIOPE satellite bus was designed and built in Magellan Aerospace,\n Winnipeg.  Magellan then supported both the integration and test of the\n e-Pop and Cascade payloads in Winnipeg and the spacecraft level testing\n at the David Florida Laboratory (DFL) in Ottawa, ON under contract to\n MDA.\n\n\nIn addition to the design, manufacture, and AIT of the bus for CASSIOPE,\n Magellan also designed and developed the in-flight computer and\n custom-build data handling card, flight software, mechanical and\n electrical ground support equipment, Command and Data Handling (C&DH)\n unit, elements of the e-POP payload, as well as the\n mechanically-designed deployable booms.\n\n\nAbout Magellan Aerospace\n\n\nMagellan Aerospace is a global, integrated aerospace company that\n provides complex assemblies and systems solutions to aircraft and\n engine manufacturers, and defense and space agencies worldwide.\n Magellan designs, e...
