James Fisher Completes Move to Larger Premises for its
Aberdeen Operation
James Fisher and Sons, specialist shipowners and managers, has
moved its expanding engineering operation in Aberdeen to
bigger premises at the newly named Fisher Building, Denmore
Road, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, more than doubling the space
available for future growth.
The move is of immediate benefit to James Fisher's two
Aberdeen-based businesses - James Fisher (Underwater
Engineering Services) Limited and James Fisher and Sons
(Seafloor Dynamex) Limited. UES supplies a range of plant,
equipment and engineering services to the offshore industry,
in the North Sea and world-wide, while Seafloor Dynamex
provides specialist sub-sea excavation equipment and related
expertise.
Combined office, workshop and yard space for these two
businesses is now more than doubled to over 5500 square metres
from 2245 square metres in the old premises. The move
reflects signs of a recovery in the pace of activity in the
North Sea.
David Cobb, chairman of the James Fisher group, with its
corporate headquarters in Barrow-in-Furness and additional
offices in the City of London, commented:
'We are very pleased with the general progress of our
engineering operation which forms a natural complement to
James Fisher's traditional expertise in specialist ship
management. The move to larger premises provides a necessary
springboard for the future expansion of the Aberdeen
activities.'
James Fisher is the UK's largest operator of small to medium-
sized clean product tankers with a fleet of some 40 vessels
under its charge. Last month it also announced the proposed
doubling of its cable laying capacity with the purchase of two
ships presently undergoing conversion work. The vessels are
to be chartered to it-International Telecom USA, a subsidiary
of General Dynamics Advanced Technology Systems.
