The Genedrive® MT-RNR1 ID Kit screens newborns for a maternally inherited genetic variant termed MT-RNR1 which causes lifelong and irreversible deafness in a child upon administration of certain antibiotics. The goal is to allow screening for all children receiving antibiotics on NICU admission. In the UK, approximately 90,000 babies are admitted to NICU each year, and approximately 80-85% of them receive antibiotics. genedrive's rapid genetic test can be completed in less than 30 minutes, allowing for alternative treatment decision on antibiotics within one hour of admission, a timeline required by the UK's National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for administration on antibiotics. Inspiration Healthcare has an exclusive distribution agreement with genedrive plc for the Antibiotic Induced Hearing Loss test, with the option to extend the agreement further through its global commercial network.\n \n \n Neil Campbell, Chief Executive Officer, commented: \"We are excited to be involved in this ground-breaking approach for dealing with MT-RNR1 with genedrive.
