[{"type":"text","content":"-- Management of common adverse events through physician-guided measures resulted in symptomatic improvement --\n\n\nBRIDGEWATER, N.J., March 4, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Insmed Incorporated (Nasdaq:INSM), a global biopharmaceutical company on a mission to transform the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases, today announced publication of results from a survey of patients with refractory Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) lung disease on the clinical management of respiratory adverse events (AEs) associated with ARIKAYCE® (amikacin liposome inhalation suspension) treatment. Results of the patient-directed study, conducted at Emory University in Atlanta, and Louisiana State University Health Science Center Clinics in New Orleans, were published in the peer-reviewed journal Open Forum Infectious Disease. The paper provides potential practical solutions to address the most common AEs that can accompany the use of ARIKAYCE in the treatment of refractory MAC lung disease.\n\"The survey results underscore the importance of our ongoing educational outreach within the MAC lung disease community and the impact these efforts can have on successful uptake and long-term commitment to treatment for this refractory patient population,\" said Dr. Martina Flammer, Chief Medical Officer at Insmed. \"Our clinical experience thus far reinforces our belief that the respiratory adverse events associated with initial treatment of ARIKAYCE can be managed through early recognition and symptom management under the guidance of a physician in order to improve tolerability and treatment adherence.\"\nThe study shows that the application of management techniques communicated by treating physicians and subsequently practiced by patients were generally effective in improving common respiratory events, such as dysphonia, increased sputum production, increased cough and dyspnea. Symptom management techniques included intake of soothing fluids, gargling with warm water and rinsing the mouth following nebulizer treatment. Additionally, changing the time of administration of ARIKAYCE to the evening, optimization of airway clearance, and bronchodilator use also generally had a positive impact. \nThe full paper, titled \"Clinical Management of Respiratory Adverse Events Associated with Amikacin Liposome Inhalation Suspension (ALIS): Results From a Patient Surve...
