(TSX: IDL),\nthe global leader in the rapidly growing market for digital radiography, today\nannounced that it has been awarded a patent for an invention that balances\nareas of varying density in a digital radiographic image. This innovation\nprovides a method to significantly improve the quality, contrast and sharpness\nof digital X-ray images and enhance the capability to study otherwise obscured\ndetails within a digital image. In addition to the U.S. patent awarded to IDC\nin February 2008 for dual energy imaging technology, this invention\nexemplifies the company's commitment to ongoing innovation in digital\nradiography.\n\n\nIDC's patent for equalizing digital images brings a higher level of\ndetail into the viewable image, and enhances the fine details in the captured\nimage. According to Robin Winsor, IDC's chief technical officer and inventor,\n"Applying this digital equalization method provides a clear advantage over\ncurrently available methods by allowing a radiologist to easily see both bony\nand soft tissue detail in one view, thereby providing a better and faster\ndiagnostic reading of the image." By applying this methodology in situations\nlike a chest X-ray, for example, where one rib is obscured by more soft tissue\nthan another, ribs of the same density will show the same absolute brightness\nirrespective of the amount of obscuring material.\n\n\nAccording to IDC President and CEO Tom Boon, "IDC's commitment to\ntechnical innovation provides radiologists with the highest quality digital\nimages to improve their diagnostic capabilities in immediate and tangible\nways."\n\n\nThe inventor was issued Canadian Patent No. 2412703.\n\n\nThe patent has been assigned to Imaging Dynamics Co.
