Ilika plc has announced positive safety test results for its Goliath solid-state battery cells from a UK defence agency, indicating suitability for high-risk applications. Prototypes delivered in December 2025 demonstrated resilience, with a 10Ah cell surviving a single shot before a thermal event was triggered by a second, and low-charge cells showing no thermal event. While a Goliath cell exhibited a delayed reaction before thermal runaway and a lower runaway temperature than conventional NCA cells, it stored three times the energy of comparable NCA cells tested under the same conditions, with a similar thermal response. The prototypes were subjected to firing range tests, which showed that:\n·    A Goliath 10Ah cell could survive a single shot before a thermal event was triggered by a second one\n·    Low state-of-charge 10Ah Goliath cells did not show a thermal event\n·    A Goliath cell showed a delayed reaction before entering thermal runaway\n·    A Goliath cell reached a lower thermal runaway temperature than conventional Nickel Cobalt Aluminium (\"NCA\") lithium-ion cells\n·    Despite Goliath 10Ah cells storing 3x the energy of conventional NCA cells being tested under equivalent conditions in the same trial, the Goliath cells had a similar thermal response\n \nThis independent validation follows the delivery of Goliath prototypes to multiple customers in December 2025 and supports Ilika's ongoing engagement with partners evaluating safety‑critical applications.
