Approximately half of all cancer patients undergo radiotherapy1 and up to 10% of these patients will develop severe toxicity2 affecting their quality of life and survival. The ability to identify these patients as early as possible is critical to these patients' outcomes and survival. The Adult Radiation Late Effect Clinic (ARLEC) at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the only clinic of its kind in Canada established to help patients affected by radiotherapy side effects, but the data required to identify and do research on these patients is buried within the clinical text of electronic health records which is extremely time consuming and expensive to analyze.
